Twitter / X Transfer Guide

MediumEst. 1–3 days

[WARNING]

Your old username is released immediately and can be claimed by anyone. Do not announce the change until transfer is complete.

Steps

1

Buyer creates a Twitter account (if needed)

The buyer must have a Twitter account ready to receive the handle. Create one with a temporary username first.

2

Seller changes username in Settings

Go to Settings → Your Account → Account information → Username. Change to a temporary username.

3

Buyer immediately claims the released username

As soon as the seller changes their username, the target handle is free. Buyer should have the rename page ready to go.

4

Buyer confirms handle is secured

Check that the handle now appears on the buyer's profile. Log out and back in to confirm.

5

Buyer confirms in ExchangeHandles escrow

Mark the transfer complete in the ExchangeHandles dashboard. This releases payment to the seller.

Tips

  • Coordinate in real-time via the ExchangeHandles messages system.
  • Have the buyer's rename page open and ready before seller releases.
  • Do the transfer at an off-peak hour to reduce race condition risk.
