Reddit Transfer Guide

Reddit does not support username changes. A handle can only be transferred by the original account owner permanently abandoning it (deleting the account).

Steps

Understand the limitation

Reddit usernames are permanent. The only way to 'transfer' one is for the seller to delete their Reddit account entirely.

Seller backs up all content

Use tools like GDPR export or third-party archivers to save important posts/comments before deletion.

Both parties agree on terms

Due to the irreversibility, confirm all escrow terms before proceeding. Deletion is permanent.

Seller deletes their Reddit account

Go to User Settings → Deactivate Account. The username is freed after a short delay (typically 24–72 hours).

Buyer creates account with the freed username

Monitor the username availability. Create a new Reddit account with the freed username.
